  3. PC-Lock provides password protection for your hard disk.  If you boot from 
  4. your hard disk, you must enter your password before DOS will come up.  Even if
  5. you boot from a floppy, you must be able to enter your password before you can
  6. access your hard disk.  PC-Lock is not in the public domain and, although the
  7. price is very low, it is not free.  Please see the PC-LOCK.DOC file for more
  8. information.

  10. This release of PC-Lock is identical to version 1.1 except for this added note
  11. and the new utility TELL.
  12.  
  13. All users who register versions 1.0 or 1.1 (see the PC-LOCK.DOC file) receive
  14. PC-Lock 1.2 at no additional charge.  Version 1.2 is available in no other way.
  15. It contains substantial feature enhancements including two levels of passwords,
  16. and support for: a wider variety of clones, systems having two hard disks,
  17. more display controller boards, etc.

  20. THE TELL UTILITY

  22. PC-Lock 1.2 uses a more secure password encryption scheme than earlier versions.
  23. Since all REGISTERED users of earlier versions now have version 1.2, and since
  24. there are FAR MORE unregistered than registered users, we have included the
  25. TELL utility.  Simply run TELL on a system which has PC-Lock version 1.0 or
  26. 1.1 installed and it will "tell" you the machine's current password.  TELL does
  27. not eliminate the protection of any registered user who has installed version
  28. 1.2, and we will never provide a TELL that works with version 1.2.

  39.                       PC-Lock Version 1.1 Enhancements
  40.  
  41. If you do not have PC-Lock version 1.0 installed on your hard disk, you may
  42. omit reading the rest of this file and go directly to the PC-LOCK.DOC file.

  44. PC-Lock version 1.1 contains two enhancements not found in version 1.0.  The
  45. first of these allows PC-Lock to work with all known Western Digital hard 
  46. disk controllers.  Some Western Digital controllers contain a bug which 
  47. causes PC-Lock to fail.  The folks at Western Digital were most helpful in
  48. providing information on exactly what they were doing so that PC-Lock could
  49. be modified to avoid the problem.  They also indicated they were working with
  50. several other software vendors having the same basic problem with their
  51. controller.

  53. Secondly, a new utility, UNLOCK, has beed added which allows you to access
  54. your hard disk even when the system is booted from a floppy disk.  You must
  55. still know your password, however.  This utility is described in the file
  56. PC-LOCK.DOC.

  58. If you wish to install version 1.1, please use the 1.0 DESTALL utility to remove
  59. version 1.0 from your computer PRIOR to installing version 1.1.

  61. Users who have registered their copies of PC-Lock 1.0 have or will receive
  62. a copy of version 1.2 in the mail.  Their license is automatically extended
